2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport unveiled before Frankfurt debut

In celebration of Golf’s 40th birthday, 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport is being officially introduced next week at the Frankfurt Motor Show. A special edition Golf GTI Clubsport will be presented, giving visitors to the show the first look at the most powerful production GTI to date.

2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport will be powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged gasoline engine tweaked into offering 290 PS power as against 265 PS power over the standard GTI. But, this excess power is possible only for about 10 seconds, using an overboost function. The engine is mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox with acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph achieved in 6 seconds while top speed stands at 250 kmph.

Interiors include the ergonomic sports seats with a tailor-made look featuring tartan fabric upholstery, red topstitching, a gear knob in golf ball design and a black headliner.

Painted in Onyx White (other colours are also on offer), 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport gets a sportier finish with contrasting black roof, sporty front and rear bumpers and new side sills. The model sits on bespoke 18” alloy wheels and receives a multi part rear spoiler while a black trim stripe runs along the side in accordance with the original 1976 Golf GTI.

Interiors boast of sporty bucket seats upholstered in Alcantara while matching trim strips are seen on instrument cluster, central console and on door panels. Steering wheel is also encased in Alcantara while sporting a GTI emblem and 12 o-clock marking while floor mats are also in matching colours. The Volkswagen also gets stainless steel door sill plates with red GTI lettering.

2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport is slated to enter production in early 2016 following which it will compete with the Renaultsport Megane 265 and SEAT Leon Cupra.
