Scoop – Kia Sonet fuel efficiency figures for all engine and transmission options have been leaked
Kia’s new SUV has created quite a buzz among new car buyers in the country. With brochure and tech specs now leaked, we already know what are the variants and its features. We also know what will be the engine and transmission options on offer. What we did not know until now, was the fuel efficiency figures.
Kia Sonet petrol 1.2 liter variant which is offered with only manual transmission, will deliver a ARAI claimed fuel efficiency of 18.4 kmpl. It will have a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 13.3 seconds. This engine deliver 83 PS and 115 Nm. For this same engine and transmission option, Hyundai Venue delivers 17.52 kmpl.
Next in line is the 1.0 liter turbo petrol variant. It will be offered with iMT as well as 7 DCT. Output stands at 120 PS and 172 Nm. With the iMT Sonet, mileage claim stands at 18.2 kmpl and 0-100 kmph acceleration claim stands at 12.3 seconds. With the 7 DCT Sonet, mileage claim increases slightly to 18.3 kmpl. 0-100 kmph acceleration time is 11.3 seconds. Hyundai Venue iMT mileage is not available. Venue DCT mileage is at 18.15 kmpl.
Sonet Diesel 1.5 liter is offered with 6 MT as well as 6 AT. Power and torque output is different for both. With the 6 MT diesel, Sonet delivers 24.1 kmpl and with 6 AT, Sonet delivers 19.0 kmpl. Diesel Sonet is also quick. 0 to 100 kmph acceleration time for 6 AT is 11.8 seconds and 6 MT is 12.3 seconds. Hyundai Venue Diesel manual mileage is 23.4 kmpl. Venue diesel automatic is not on offer.
As per the leaked information about Kia Sonet mileage figures, in spite of having the same set of petrol and diesel engine options, it is more fuel efficient than its cousin Hyundai Venue.

Huge Demand
Sonet order books have officially opened. On the first day itself, Kia registered over 6,500 bookings for Sonet. With each Sonet booking attracting an amount of Rs 25,000 – thats a total collection of over Rs 16.25 crores by Kia India in just 24 hours. With this kind of demand, some dealers are expecting huge waiting periods. Kia India management is optimistic and have promised to keep waiting periods as low as possible.
Kia is the fastest growing car brand in India. In less than a year, they managed to sell more than 1 lakh cars in India – a feat no other car manufacturer has achieved in the history of Indian auto industry. Sonet is produced at the same plant in Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh; where Kia produces the Seltos SUV. It will be a challenge for Kia to keep the waiting periods low as they already have pending orders for Seltos.
