MG Hector beats Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass – Aug 2019 sales

For the second consecutive month, MG Hector has beaten rival SUVs in the segment. Sales of MG Hector in Aug 2019 stood at 2,018 units. This was much higher than any other rival of the SUV in the price segment.

On the 2nd spot was Mahindra XUV500 with sales of 968 units. Compared to Aug 2018, sales of XUV500 have declined by 53% last month. On the 3rd spot is Tata Harrier, with sales of 635 units. This is the lowest monthly sales total registered by Tata Harrier since its launch earlier this year.

For many months, Harrier was the best selling car in the segment. It even managed to register highest monthly sales of over 2,400 units. But since the arrival of Hector, sales of Harrier have failed to cross the 750 mark in a month.

Jeep Compass continued to stay at the bottom, with sales of 605 units. This is better than sales registered in July 2019, when Compass sales were at its lowest ever total of 509 units. YoY basis, Compass sales have registered a growth of 18%.

Demand for MG Hector is such that bookings of the MG Hector have to been put on hold. The company plans to reopen booking from later this year. The company also plans to increase production to 3,000 units from a current 2,000 units per month from the company’s Halol plant which MG Motors is working closely with their local and global suppliers to help in this increased production in a progressive manner.

With waiting period high (bookings at 39,000 units), MG Motors announced a ‘Worth Waiting For’ campaign wherein 1000 points will be awarded each week to owners awaiting delivery of the Hector. These points can be redeemed against Hector official accessories at company dealerships. The company is also sponsoring education of 1 girl child for every 2 weeks that a customer has to await delivery of the Hector.

Powering the MG Hector is a 2.0 liter diesel engine that offers class leading figures in terms of power and performance. Its 1.5 liter petrol engine comes with a 48V mild hybrid system. It is also in terms of price that the MG Hector has attracted the attention of buyers in the country. Its range starts from Rs.12.18 lakhs going up to Rs.16.88 lakhs.
